Therapy
According to the The American HeritageR Dictionary of the English Language,
Fourth Edition, therapy is the:
1. Treatment of illness or disability.
2. Psychotherapy.
3. Healing power or quality: the therapy of fresh air and sun.
With this definition, we have many forms of therapy today covering all
ranges of physical, mental, emotional topics. People seek therapy to better
understand their behaviors and to gain better insight to one self. Though
the reasons of the need for therapy is vast the benefits of thereapy are: in
that therapy or counseling helps people in many ways with various problems.
It can help people in achieving increased self-awareness; develop better
understanding them themselves and others. Therapy can help people learn how
to deal more effectively with situations in their lives such as divorce,
addictions, stress, and domestic violence etc. Therapy can help people learn
how to live/cope with mental illnesses such as compulsions, phobias,
post-traumatic stress syndrome and many other conditions.
Meditation is sometimes described as "listening to the silence between
thoughts". Our effort in meditation is directed towards consciously
increasing the periods of such silence.
