Dance
Dance provides many physical, social, emotional and spiritual benefits. From the beginnings of recorded history we find evidence of dance. Cultures from every continent on this planet simultaneously embraced unique dance forms based on the animals and elements of nature present within their domain. Their purpose in dancing was to "enter the consciousness" or "become the spirit" of the earth, sun, moon, and various animal and plant life. In these ancient times, our ancestors viewed nature and all of its elements as an expression of God. Thus dancing was intended to vibrate at the same rate as the Creator, much the same as any young child will mimic its environment out of love and appreciation for its existence. Dance is a form of prayer, a demonstration of reverence, and to dance regularly promotes spiritual and physical health and vitality. We use dance to express ourselves and to imitate nature. Thus, dance was done through movement and sounds. Many original peoples considered life as they walked upon the "Earth Mother" as a constant dance and expression. It has been incorporated in ceremonies and festivals.
Dance and movement bring out the expression of the soul.

Dance is also a great social activity. Dancing is a great way to attain physical fitness and exercise. A recent study by the Mayo Clinic shared that through the activity of dancing, one can burn as many calories as walking or swimming. A half hour of dancing can burn 200 to 400 calories and increases your cardiovascular health. Many senior citizens dance to help them to maintain an exercise routine that is not as rigorous as running, but will stretch their muscles and can help prevent or slow the loss of bone mass (osteoporosis).
Dancing relieves stress and is a great activity to do at any time - when the music starts beating you can't help but move your body to the music. Dance, have some fun with your body and feel great too!
